Shepherd School Centennial Concerts

These performances were recorded live during concerts presented by the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra on October 11, 12, and 14, 2012 as part of Rice’s Centennial Celebration.
The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Larry Rachleff, Walter Kris Hubert Professor of Music, presented the world premiere of William Bolcom's Ninth Symphony, commissioned by Rice University in honor of its Centennial Celebration. The program opened with Carl Nielsen’s Maskarade Overture, followed by Bolcom’s Ninth Symphony. Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43 featuring Professor of Piano Jon Kimura Parker as soloist and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43 concluded the program.
