Alexandra Kieffer is Assistant Professor of Musicology at Rice University. She received her Ph.D. in music history from Yale University in 2014 and spent the 2014-2015 academic year as an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities at Stanford University. Her current book project explores constructions of sensation, listening, and affect in early twentieth-century Debussyism in the context of emerging scientific discourses on the body, and her essays on Debussy reception and early twentieth-century French intellectual culture are forthcoming in 19th-Century Music and Music Theory Spectrum. Her research has been supported by the Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation and the American Musicological Society’s M. Elizabeth C. Bartlet fund.
