Paul Ellison, professor of double bass; Robert Yekovich, dean of the Shepherd School of Music; Cho-Liang Lin, professor of violin; and Michael Webster, professor of clarinet, met with Mark O' Connor (center), who recently performed a Guest Artist Recital and Workshop at the Shepherd School of Music.


Pierre Jalbert, associate professor of composition and theory; and Norman Fischer, professor of cello, along with students of the Shepherd School attended an open discussion led by the Kronos Quartet on April 11, 2008.

DAVID WATERS is a native Houstonian. He received his bachelor´s degree at the University of Houston and his master´s degree from the University of Texas. His teachers include Albert Lube, John Clark, Edward Kleinhammer, and Arnold Jacobs.

He played principal trombone in the Austin Symphony for two years, followed by a season in the National Orchestral Association in New York. For two years he taught in the Caldwell-West Caldwell Public School System in New Jersey.

Since 1966 Waters has been bass trombonist in the Houston Symphony Orchestra. He has taught in several universities in the area, including nine years at Sam Houston State University. Since 1976 he has been at the Shepherd School of Music, where he is presently Associate Professor of Trombone.

Waters has performed in all areas: solo, chamber music, jazz ensemble, show orchestras, and recordings. As a euphoniumist, he toured with the New Sousa Band and was soloist with the Houston Symphony Pops Orchestra.
