Young Musicians and Their Careers: Highlights from the Longitudinal Study of Music Involvement, 2001-2007
Dr. Dobrow's research addresses the question of why people make seemingly irrational decisions to pursue extraordinarily competitive, challenging music career paths.  This presentation will offer highlights from an ongoing longitudinal survey study of talented young musicians.  Dobrow investigates the nature of subjective orientation - the sense of calling.  Sponsored with the support of Rice University's Humanities Research Center.

Student "Lab" Performances
Participating student leaders will join together in a series of informal performances to be held in four classrooms at the Shepherd School. The public is invited to hear a series of 30 minute mini-concerts, which will be performed by conference student participants during the forum. These “lab” performances are designed as “experiments” where the students can discover ways to connect and present individual solo works using the information and insights learned from the weekend experiences.
12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Classrooms

Forty student leaders from sixteen of the nation’s top music schools will explore new trends in classical music presentation and their impact on future careers in music. For more information on the two events open to the public call 713-348-8000.
