Financial Assistance
Financial aid in the form of scholarships and fellowships for Shepherd School graduate students is administered entirely by the Shepherd School. Upon submission of your Application for Financial Aid you will be considered for all types of assistance offered by The Shepherd School of Music. After you have been accepted, and if you are a U.S. citizen, you may also apply for student loans to cover any portion of your tuition that is not covered by scholarship, plus living expenses of about $4,000 each semester.
International students are not eligible for need-based financial aid and will be required to provide proof of the ability to pay the entire cost of attending the Shepherd School when accepting an offer of admission. Financial sources can include personal or family funds and any Rice scholarship or fellowship that is offered to the student.
Please note the following distinctions:
- Financial Assistance: Any monies given to you by Rice University and/or the Shepherd School, including waivers of any fees.
- Fellowship: Full tuition plus a stipend (duties are required).
- Graduate Scholarship: Full or partial tuition (duties are required).
