RICE CHORALE PERFORMS REQUIEM BY BRAHMS
Joining
the nation and world, Rice Chorale under the direction of Thomas
Jaber, Director of Vocal Ensembles at the Shepherd School of Music
performed the Requiem by Johannes Brahms on September 11, 2003 in
remembrance of the tragedy of 9-11. The performance was held in
the Grand Foyer of Alice Pratt Brown Hall in splendid acoustics.
The Shepherd School of Music features three vocal ensembles. The
largest ensemble, Rice Chorale, is a full chorus of about one hundred
twenty voices. All voice majors and all music majors who are not
orchestral instrumentalists sing in Rice Chorale. In addition, the
Chorale welcomes, by audition, other talented singers from the Rice
University student body and the greater Houston community. This
group typically performs four concerts per year, selecting major
works from both the a cappella and orchestral chorus repertoire.
Thomas Jaber has been the Director of Vocal Ensembles since 1988.
An accomplished pianist and vocal coach, his leadership has brought
all three groups to a level where they are considered one of the
city´s finest musical treasures and their concerts have developed
a loyal following among the friends of Rice University and in Houston´s
arts community.
