SHEPHERD SCHOOL MEDICAL OUTREACH CLUB
Founded in January of 2004, Shepherd School students Jessica Blackwell and Isaac Chua have organized and are promoting an outreach opportunity in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Blackwell, a sophomore violin student of Sergiu Luca, and Chua, a senior voice student, see outreach as a way to give back to the community.
The mission of the medical outreach is to provide a formal opportunity for Shepherd School students to share their music with the Houston community, mainly the to those in the Texas Medical Center. Music is one important element of the healing process, and Shepherd School students are invited to to participate in this process with the surrounding Houston community.
Some of the venues for outreach this year include the Ronald McDonald House, The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Hospice with participation in the Best Buddies Program. The medical outreach club boasts over a dozen members, ranging in instrument and year. The only requirement is that students participate in at least two events per semester. Two events per month are offered. For more information contact the Medical Outreach Club.
