HSPVA offers classical, jazz and band concerts all year long. The school also puts on musical productions. It is a wonderful resource for music loving children because there are high quality concerts all year; concerts are not long; the atmosphere is informal; your children will love seeing older children playing so beautifully; you can sit close to the performers; tickets are inexpensive; and children are more than welcome and some talking/crying during performances won’t raise eyebrows!

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS
These productions are often great fun for children and are completely family friendly. Try the High School for Performing and Visual Arts, Bellaire and Lamar High Schools, and St. John’s School.

CHILDREN’S PERFORMING GROUPS

HOUSTON BOY CHOIR
PO Box 271342
Houston, Texas 77277-1342
281-484-1560

This superb choir is all boys, all the time. This organization gives concerts all year. It is great fun for children to hear and see other children perform. For the many boys in our school who love to sing, hearing the chorus now will give them something to look forward to doing when they’re a little older.

Singing is something we can do as children, but also continue to do all our lives. Just as many parents are encouraging their kids to learn “life” sports (such as golf, tennis and swimming) and “life” hobbies (such as reading), singing is one of those activities that people don’t grow out of or tire of in the same way as many do with instruments.

SOCIETY FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
Recommended for children ages 5 and up. There are several events on the SPA calendar every year that are appropriate for children, and bring the world of dance and music to the United States. As a child, I was deeply influenced by such international performances. Before attending any of these you should get a little background with your child at the library about the country the group is from, or listen to the pieces that will be in the performance, or read the story that will be performed.
For more information call 713-227-1111

THE SONS OF ORPHEUS - ALL MEN'S CHORUS
The Sons of Orpheus, founded by their music director, Edgar Moore, in the spring of 2001, is a performing ensemble of 20 – 24 auditioned male voices chosen from the greater Houston area. All who have come together because of a genuine love of singing and the choral art.

The goal of the Sons of Orpheus is to provide expressive and artistic performance of repertory written and/or arranged for male chorus from all musical stylistic periods.
