BRIAN NELSON attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas from 1996 to 2001. He earned a B.M. in Composition and a B.S. in Computer Science, studying composition with Timothy Kramer and organ with David Heller. Brian represented the Alamo Chapter of the American Guild of Organists at the 1999 Regional AGO Young Organist Undergraduate Competition in Forth Worth, Texas, and received an honorable mention for the 2001 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Competition.
He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2003 with a M.M. in Composition, studying composition with Bright Sheng, Michael Daugherty, and Erik Santos, and organ with James Kibbie. Brian has been commissioned for new music from the San Antonio Symphony, the Trinity University Theatre Department, and the American Guild of Organists. He is currenting working on a D.M.A. in Composition at Rice University.
