CORNELIA WATKINS received her Bachelor of Music degree at Hartt School of Music, where she studied with David Wells, and her Masters of Music from the University of Houston under the tutelage of Hans Jørgen Jensen. She plays with many of the major performing organizations in Houston, including the Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, The Bach Society, and Theater Under the Stars. She maintains a very successful class of students, many of whom perform in the All-Region and All-State orchestras, and several who are now performers and teachers themselves.
Ms. Watkins gives clinics and master classes at many universities and teaching conferences across the country, and is a committee member of CMP (Comprehensive Musicianship through Performance) a Wisconsin-based teacher training program. She is the newly-appointed chairperson of the American String Teacher Association’s National Committee on Studio Instruction, as well as the Private Teacher representative on the board of TexASTA. Also a writer, she has been published in various string teaching journals, and is the author of “Rosindust,” a newsletter about teaching and playing, due to be published as a book in 2007.
