American mezzo-soprano SARAH BRAUER is an up and coming singer of outstanding artistry and great promise.
At home on the operatic stage, Ms. Brauer has performed the roles of Dorothée in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Narciso in Händel’s Agrippina with USC Thornton Opera. Ms. Brauer has also professionally covered the role of Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro as a member of the 2003 Astoria Opera Festival. Ms. Brauer has been seen in scenes as 1st Secretary in Adam’s Nixon in China, Marcellina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Augusta in Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe. As a member of the Aspen Music Festival, Ms. Brauer has been privileged to work close with the Festival’s stage director Ed Berkeley and has appeared in his productions of Verdi’s La Traviata and Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis under the auspices of the Julliard Opera Center. Ever a champion of new music, Ms. Brauer gave the world premier performance of Primiani’s Truman Project creating the role of Margaret Truman for OPERA America 2006.
In concert, Ms. Brauer has been heard as the mezzo-soprano soloist for Händel’s Messiah with the Salem Chamber Orchestra, Bach’s St. John’s Passion with the Chicago Festival Chorale, and Mozart’s Requiem with St. James’ Episcopal. Ms. Brauer was the winner of numerous scholarship awards and competitions, including the Oregon NATS College I Competition.
In addition to operatic and concert performances, Ms. Brauer has sung with the Grammy-nominated Oregon Bach Festival Chorus under the direction of Maestro Helmuth Rilling and has been a professional chorister with St. James’ Episcopal Church, Los Angeles, under the direction of Choir Master James Buonemani.
In the fall of 2006, Ms. Brauer will begin her Masters at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music where she will study with mezzo-soprano Susanne Mentzer. Ms. Brauer received her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. |
