The Shepherd School of Music is proud to be one of the nation’s premier schools of music, with a world-class faculty and stunning facilities. The Shepherd School has only 300 students, Rice University’s entire undergraduate population is 2,700, and our student-faculty ratio is just 5 to 1.

Although our class sizes are small, the Shepherd School is housed in the impressive Alice Pratt Brown Hall, which was designed to provide students with everything needed to study, rehearse, and perform music.

This beautiful building features a 1,000-seat concert hall, a 250-seat recital hall, a 175-seat opera theater, a dedicated organ and choral recital hall, and plenty of practice rooms.

The musical excellence of the Shepherd School does not come at the expense of academics. As a Rice student, you will be able to take advantage of a stellar liberal arts program that will prepare you for the continual challenges of the music world.
