Financial assistance may be in the form of need-based funds awarded through the Rice University Office of Financial Aid, a merit scholarship from The Shepherd School of Music, or a combination of the two.

Rice University meets 100% of a student’s demonstrated need, and for students in the freshman class entering in Fall 2012 whose total family income is less than $80,000, need-based assistance will contain no loans.

*Freshmen are also charged a $205 Orientation Week fee and if the student stays on campus during orientation there is a $280 R&B Fee.

In addition to Rice University’s generous and responsive financial aid program, The Shepherd School of Music awards competitive merit-based scholarships to its students to recognize exceptional musical accomplishment and potential.

Music students who wish to be considered for a merit award are required to apply for need-based assistance and complete the Shepherd School Financial Assistance Application.

To apply for financial assistance, you must complete all of the following steps:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2012. Use 003604 for the school code.
Complete the CSS PROFILE form by March 1. Use 6609 for the CSS Profile Code.
Submit 2011 Tax Returns and W-2s to IDOC by March 1.
Complete the Shepherd School Financial Assistance Application and mail it to:
