Mary Greitzer

Mary Greitzer joined the Composition & Theory Department in 2013. Her research and teaching interests include ear training and music theory pedagogy; post-tonal music; avant garde, experimental and fringe art; and gender and sexuality. She holds a BM in violin from the Eastman School of Music, an MM in theory from New England Conservatory, and a PhD in theory from Harvard University, where she studied with David Lewin, David Cohen, Chris Hasty, and Alex Rehding. Her dissertation analyzes musical embodiment in solo traumatic works ranging from Tori Amos to Eugene Ysaye to Milton Babbitt, applying feminist and queer perspectives to music analysis.
