Important update: The Peter and the Wolf orchestra concert at 11:00 am is now sold out. But don't worry, there’s still plenty of fun to be had! From 12:00 to 2:00 pm, enjoy over 20 live performances and activities, perfect for all ages.
This event is completely FREE, including parking in West Lots 2 and 3 (when you register).

The Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra performs Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, with bilingual narration by Michael Sifuentes in English and Spanish. The concert begins with Kevin Day’s energetic Lightspeed and is led by Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Distinguished Resident Director Designate of Orchestras.

Piazza Della Musica
Spend time outside for face painting, games, food trucks, and three musical performances by Shepherd students on The Concert Truck.
Activities in Brockman Hall for Opera

- Delight in performances by Shepherd opera students, then enjoy backstage tours through the Scene Shop and Morrison Theater stage. Tours begin immediately after the performances end.

- You'll find information desks, free giveaways to take home, coloring stations with crayons, and photo ops with Rice's mascot Sammy the Owl.
Wortham Theatre
- Visit our black-box for a unique live music lab - use an iPad to create reactions in music and lights!
Stude Concert Hall
- Learn to conduct with Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Distinguished Resident Director Designate of Orchestras.
- Indulge in the angelic sounds of harp ensemble, featuring Shepherd students and alumni.
Duncan Recital Hall
- Enjoy performances of chamber music by Shepherd string and piano students.
Hirsch Orchestra Rehearsal Hall
- Revel in a fusion of dance and music, featuring a mixed quintet from Shepherd alongside dancers from Kasama, Rice University's Filipino and South Asian dance team.
- Delight in Valerie Coleman's joyful short work, Umoja, for woodwind quintet. Shepherd students perform and lead instrument demonstrations.
Edythe Bates Old Recital Hall
- Bask in the beautiful singing of the Rice Chorale, led by Director of Choral Activities Tom Jaber.
- Wow at the wonders of the Grand Organ, with Shepherd organ students leading short demonstrations.
- Go back in time as four Shepherd students in the Collegium Musicum perform a selection of Renaissance and Baroque music.
East Lobby
- Be part of history by hearing a brand new piece written by a Shepherd composition student for violin and contrabassoon.
If you reserved Peter and the Wolf family concert tickets, you do not need to register for separate Community Day passes.
