Stude Concert Hall, Duncan Recital Hall, Hirsch Orchestra Rehearsal Hall, and Wortham Opera Theatre are located in Alice Pratt Brown Hall on the Rice University campus. Alice Pratt Brown Hall is wheelchair accessible. Signs inside the campus near entrances 1, 2, 8, and 20 provide directions to all visitor parking.
Please note: BEGINNING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, THE NORTH SIDE TEMPORARY SIDEWALK AND ENTRANCE TO THE GRAND FOYER WILL BE CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION. The south side entrance that has been closed since the Fall will be opened, heading toward Tudor Fieldhouse. Concert patrons and building users should enter through the north side building entrance on Laboratory Road, next to Stude Concert Hall. Our hope is that the Foyer entrances will be completely open by late spring.
West Lot 2 (and sometimes West Lot 3 if West Lot 2 gets full for evening, night and weekend events) is designated for all Shepherd School of Music events. Fees for the use of this lot are: $1 for each 10 minutes, with a $12 daily maximum.
Overflow parking is available in the Central Campus Garage, located just east of the music school (underneath the Jones Graduate School of Business) or in the North Annex Visitor Lot near Entrance No. 20 off of Rice Boulevard. Also after 5:30 pm on weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday, the entire North Lot is open to paying visitors. Fees for the use of these lots are: $1 for each 10 minutes, with a $12 daily maximum.
The $2 flat rate per/entry/day visitor parking is in the large Greenbriar Lot, west of the football stadium, for people visiting Rice for meetings, events, activities, and business. Enter the lot from Greenbriar Blvd at campus Entrance 13A or 13B or off of Rice Blvd at entrance 16.
Rice University offers a special parking card for visitors attending performances at The Shepherd School of Music. This card costs $50 and gives the user access to the West Lot 2 (or West Lot 3 if 2 is full) for one semester. It is only valid after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on weekends and holidays. These special cards are available at the Rice University Parking Office. For more details contact Parking Registration Office or phone 713-348-7275.
Machines at the entrance gates will instruct the driver to insert a credit card (American Express, VISA, MasterCard or Discover). When the gate opens, the computer’s “parking meter” begins. Upon leaving, the visitor drives to the exit gate and inserts the same credit card. It is very important to use the same credit card used at entry while exiting, otherwise the computer will not recognize the card. The gate will open in approximately 2 seconds, at which time the meter stops. The computer calculates the time, briefly shows the amount, and automatically bills the credit card. For additional details visit the Rice Parking visitor site.
