Biography
Alex Munger joined the Shepherd School of Music as Artist Teacher of Opera Studies in the fall of 2022. From 2019-2022, he was a member of the Houston Grand Opera Butler Studio, where he worked on productions of Rigoletto, Carmen, Die Zauberflöte and Roméo et Juliette, among others. Alex spent three summers with Wolf Trap Opera (Susannah, L’amant Anonyme) and two summers with the Aspen Opera Center (Il barbiere di Siviglia, A Little Night Music). Alex received his M.M. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018 and his B.M. from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2016. At Rice, Alex teaches the undergraduate diction curriculum, coaches singers, and assists with the mainstage productions and opera scenes programs. In addition to his focus in opera, he enjoys continued work in art song repertoire. Alex is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
