Founded in 1975, The Shepherd Society provides scholarship support for our students and plays a crucial role in attracting today’s most talented young musicians to study at Rice.
A Message from the dean
These are exciting times for The Shepherd School of Music. Our new building emerging just west of Alice Pratt Brown Hall will, in 2020, complete a vision for the Shepherd School that is almost three decades in the making. Meanwhile, our students continue to distinguish themselves with top ensembles in Houston, the nation and the world, sharing their talent and passion with audiences seeking the very best in music performance.
The success of our students is an indication of their talent and drive as well as the training and preparation they receive from our remarkable faculty. Together, they strive for excellence every day, and they do so with the backing of our wonderful community of support.
When you join the Shepherd Society, every dollar of your contribution goes toward student scholarships. These funds, in turn, empower our faculty to recruit the brightest young performers and support them as they thrive in studios and on stage.
When I consider our unmatched patrons, I am gratified by the tradition of generosity that gives future generations the wings to fly and encouraged by how much more we can accomplish. To our Shepherd Society members: thank you for your support. To those who have yet to join, I encourage you to be a part of the Shepherd School’s bright future. I know that our students and faculty will bring their best, and with your support there is no limit to what they can achieve.
The Shepherd Society offers multiple levels of membership with an array of events and programs to enjoy.
