Biography
Facilities Manager Carlos Amaro manages the daily operations tasks for the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, overseeing the material condition of Alice Pratt Brown Hall and Brockman Hall for Opera. His responsibilities span physical building maintenance – including HVAC adjustments, minor repairs, and work orders – and broad technical support for classroom media, office computers, and printing systems. He also handles equipment procurement and manages vendor relationships to keep both facilities running seamlessly.
He is a returning employee to Rice University having originally worked for the Brown School of Engineering, where he was the recipient of the Brown College President’s Award. Prior to his return to Rice, he spent 8 years as the Operations Manager for Johnson & Johnson’s Center for Device Innovation where he fulfilled a similar role. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation and Electronics Design from the University of Houston Downtown and is a 6 year US Navy veteran. Outside of work, he enjoys working on his classic car and catching the occasional fish.
