Biography

Francis Schmidt is the Audio Recording Engineer at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he records and provides streaming audio for major ensembles and events, including Orchestras, Chamber Players, Operas, the Percussion Ensemble, and Concerto Competitions, as well as managing classroom events.

Prior to his tenure at the Shepherd School, Francis spent two decades in computer repair across Texas and Louisiana, with clients such as NASA and Texas Instruments. In addition to his school responsibilities, he records ensemble concerts for local groups including Kinetic, Musiqa, and Aperio: Music of the Americas, and serves the AFA summer festival.

Francis holds an Audio Engineering certificate from Houston Community College (2004) and is Dante Level One certified. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys playing guitar and ukulele, as well as building custom guitar amps, pedals, miniature furniture, and wooden art boxes.
