Biography
John Moore is the Director of Production for Opera, where he oversees all technical and production operations, guiding each production from design and budgeting through construction, installation, and performance. His focus is on creating a professional production environment that not only supports exceptional performances but also enhances the educational experience, giving students the opportunity to perform and collaborate at the highest level.
John brings more than a decade of leadership experience in live entertainment. Before joining Rice University, he spent five years managing nationally touring theatrical productions, overseeing logistics, personnel, and technical operations across the country. He then served for five years as the Associate Technical Director at Stages, where he supervised scenic construction, managed production teams, and helped deliver a wide range of acclaimed theatrical productions.
In addition to his institutional work, John owns J.D.M. Scenic Studios, a scenic fabrication company specializing in custom scenery, woodworking, and specialty fabrication for live entertainment. His passion for craftsmanship, innovation, and collaboration continues to shape his approach to production, combining traditional theatrical techniques with modern fabrication methods to bring ambitious artistic visions to life.
