Biography
Guided by the conviction that shared musical experiences create profound human connections, Matthew Neumann serves as the Marketing and Communications Specialist at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Since joining Shepherd in 2008, Matthew has proudly handled graphic design needs for the school’s print materials, including concert programs, postcards, and signage. Recent high-impact initiatives include the school’s major brand refresh and marketing for its landmark 50th Anniversary season and Gala.
A trained vocalist with a deep passion for classical music, Matthew holds a Master of Music in Opera Performance and has performed as a member of the acclaimed Houston Grand Opera Chorus since the 2008–09 season. His dual perspective as both an active performer and creative communicator allows him to bridge artistic intent with strategic outreach.
Matthew earned his Bachelor of Music (’06) and his Master of Music (’08) from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas. Beyond his work at Rice, he is an avid enthusiast of Houston’s culinary scene, good wine, cooking, roadtrips, and enjoys escaping to the mountains for strenuous hikes. He lives in Houston with his husband, Wes, and their two dogs, Walter and Luann.
