Biography
Stephen Bachicha serves as the Orchestra Librarian at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he orchestrates behind-the-scenes music operations for the school’s orchestral ensembles and major productions. He oversees everything from music licensing and acquisition to the meticulous preparation of scores and parts, making sure faculty, student musicians, and guest conductors have exactly what they need on the music stand.
Stephen brings a wealth of hands-on ensemble experience to Rice, having previously served as the Operations Manager for the Houston Youth Symphony and worked in the performance library at the Houston Grand Opera.
Beyond keeping library operations running smoothly, Stephen is an accomplished composer whose music has been performed across the United States and Europe. His works, once colorfully described as “…a thoroughly entertaining bumptious phantasmagoria of American sass…”, have earned top honors from the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the NATS Art Song Composition Competition. He, alongside SSM Faculty member, Karim Al-Zand is featured in Standing Still, Still Standing (An artsong collection) commissioned by award winning Mezzo Soprano, Suzanne Mentzer.
Off the clock, Stephen trades sheet music for quality time with his family, experimenting in the kitchen, building intricate LEGO sets, playing outside with his two young boys, and hanging out outdoors with friends.
