Gustav Mahler declared, “A symphony must be like the world. It must embrace everything.” Honoring this vision, Shepherd Orchestras embarks on an ambitious journey through Mahler’s symphonic output with his monumental “Titan,” a work that transforms nature’s sounds into a profound narrative of life and struggle. Preceding Mahler are excerpts from two pioneering voices: a lyrical movement from Amy Beach’s historic “Gaelic” Symphony and a dramatic prelude from Dame Ethel Smyth’s iconoclastic opera, The Wreckers.
