Teresa Procter (she/her) is a classically trained singer with joint clinical training and expertise in the evaluation and treatment of the voice and upper airway disorders. Teresa currently practices at the Texas Voice Center, Houston Methodist ENT Specialists, Department of Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery, Houston Methodist Hospital, and is adjunct faculty in the vocology program at Lamar University, Beaumont, TX. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Music from Luther College in Decorah, IA, and completed her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Rice University at the Shepherd School of Music. She completed her post-baccalaureate and Masters of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Houston, where she was an active member of the Joshi Voice Lab. Her passion for the performing voice and voice habilitation led her to the Lakeshore Professional Voice Center in Metro Detroit for completion of her clinical fellowship with Drs. Juliana Codino and Adam Rubin. Research endeavors include journal publications and subsequent presentations at regional, national, and international levels on socio-linguistically diverse voices, acoustic assessments during COVID-19, vocology, neurolaryngology, clinical fellowship opportunities in voice, voice rest protocols, and post-surgical rehabilitation of the singing voice.
Teresa is passionate about collaborative work in vocal health and function. She has been an invited speaker for medical voice courses and state conventions and has led interactive workshops for music educators, professional performing artists, and student vocalists (university and high school). She was awarded a Distinguished Early Career Professional Certificate in 2021 from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) for her impact in local and community associations.
As a performer, regional professional singing engagements included the Da Camera Young Artist Program, Houston Grand Opera’s education initiative HGOco and Opera to Go!, Bach Society, Young Audiences of Houston, and Houston Methodist’s Center for Performing Arts Medicine Crain Garden music series.
Teresa is a current clinical doctorate student in speech pathology at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. She also serves as Music for Autism’s Texas Program Coordinator and Emcee and sings with the Houston Grand Opera Chorus.
