Classical, Contemporary and Cross-Cultural Asian Music and Theater
Classical, Contemporary, and Cross-Cultural Music promotes university, local, and international collaboration through creation of online educational resources, presentations of lectures, forums, workshops, and performances. As human interactions become increasingly global, it is culture’s role to discover new forms of artistic expression that reflect a broader, world-wide view. It encourages experimentation by presenting works and ideas that fuse traditional music from different Asian cultures with Western musical ideas and contemporary mediums such as computer music. This exchange of ideas and the emphasis on Asian culture aligns well with Rice University’s Vision for the Second Century (V2C).
As Dean of the Shepherd School of Music, I welcome you and look forward to observing the potential effect of these interactions on our collective vision of music as well as creating even more opportunities for future collaborations.
