Percussion and Harp department

The Percussion Studio at The Shepherd School of Music offers undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degrees in music. A small program with a focus on performance affords all students, regardless of degree level, with numerous music opportunities. Students play daily in Orchestra or Chamber Orchestra, as well as percussion ensemble, culminating in concert and recital performances each semester. With repertoire programming that includes every major work for percussion, students are given a strong foundation on which to build.

Under the expert guidance of Richard Brown, whose professional career has spanned nearly 40 years and encompasses symphony orchestra, Broadway, Big Band and Opera, percussion students are able to focus and commit to the necessary work in pursuit of various musical endeavors.

Harp studies at the Shepherd School award both a Bachelor and Master of Music degree upon completion. In addition to a comprehensive core curriculum harp students benefit from extensive performance exposure through orchestral and chamber music opportunities and individualized attention.

Following the pattern of her primary mentor, Alice Chalifoux, Paula Page combines her performance career as Principal Harp of the Houston Symphony and teaching experience and is an invaluable resource to her students. Graduates of The Shepherd School Harp Studio are assuming various posts with orchestra and chamber music ensembles as well as with notable educational institutions.
