PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Shepherd School of Music invites you to its Family Concert, sponsored by The Shepherd Society. Join the Shepherd School chamber orchestra for a performance of Camille Saint- Saëns’ “The Carnival of the Animals”. This chamber music piece combines musical jokes and astonishing evocations of the animal kingdom. There are unexpected surprises and sly pokes at fashionable society. The piece is scored for a small ensemble of instruments from every family, and includes two grand pianos! The music can be appreciated by the young for its lively description of animal behavior, and by everyone for its virtuosic flare and famous melodies. In our presentation, we will invite our audience to participate in animal antics, as well as reveal some of the musical secrets embedded in this classic gem.
• Awaken your inner animal with the help of our beastly musicians.
• Hear the power of two grand pianos.
• Enjoy some of the most famous musical excerpts ever composed.
• Meet the musicians and instruments before the concert.
The expectation at The Shepherd School of Music and Rice University is that all members of our audience ages 5 and above are fully vaccinated. Masks are required indoors at all times.
