Before the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra concert featuring Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2, ticketholders are invited to Room 1133 in Alice Pratt Brown Hall to view the one-of-a-kind musical album of Max Kalbeck. Max Kalbeck was the Viennese music critic and biographer of Brahms. The album contains Brahms’ own “musical autograph”, along with those of Clara Schumann, Strauss, Grieg, Massenet, Saint-Saëns, Von Bülow, Rubinstein, Joachim, and more.
The book's owner, Ronald Franklin, and Professor and Chair of Musicology Gregory Barnett will share its significance and display the page containing Brahms' signature, circa 1874.
