This is a reminder that all students with a weekly in-person presence are required to test twice a week. In particular, orchestra students scheduled to rehearse on Monday, Feb. 22, must be tested today, tomorrow, or Sunday.

Shepherd School Updates on Weekend Events

Dear members of the Shepherd School community:

As Dean Yekovich mentioned in his earlier email, no officially sanctioned classes, lessons or rehearsals are possible for the remainder of this week and that policy included any recitals scheduled for tonight (2/18) and tomorrow (2/19). The status of recitals scheduled for the weekend was still to be determined.

After meeting with building operations and staff this afternoon it was determined that those events scheduled to happen this weekend should be possible and that recitals and rehearsals that remain on the schedule for Saturday (Feb20), and Sunday (Feb 21) could proceed as previously planned.

The events that remain on the schedule for the weekend are:

Feb. 20
5:30 PM – James MacAloon 
8:00 PM – Mary Grace Johnson

Feb. 21 
5:30 PM – Sarah Switzer
8:00 PM – Marimba ensemble

Operations and events should return to the previously set schedule thereafter.

Shepherd School community:

Several faculty, students and staff have been severely impacted by the freezing temperatures resulting in loss of power, connectivity and water for as many as four consecutive days. The combination of these factors has greatly impeded the School’s ability to disseminate information specific to our program.  Power to more than 900,000 Houstonians has been restored overnight however and I’m greatly relieved to know that many in our community can begin to recover and our communications ability is largely back in place.

I trust that everyone has, to the best of your capabilities, followed the University’s daily communications about class cancellations etc. Power may continue to be intermittent and returning to normal operations cannot occur until Monday. No officially sanctioned classes, lessons or rehearsals will be possible this week.  Similarly, today’s and Friday’s recitals must be postponed.

An announcement about recitals scheduled for the weekend will be made later today and hopefully those will be able to proceed.  More information will be forthcoming so please check your email and our website (which we’re now able to update) on a regular basis.

Finally, faculty or students who access either of our buildings today, should make appointments to be tested.  Limited testing is available throughout the day and as of now, we have no information about Friday and the weekend.

Our hope is that testing, especially for students in orchestra who are scheduled to resume rehearsals on Monday, will be made available over the next few days but again, we strongly urge you to be tested today if you’re planning to be on campus.

Please remain vigilant, practicing all safety protocols, and proceed with caution when traveling to and from campus.  Updates will be forthcoming.
