In addition to The Shepherd Society and opportunities associated with the opening of the Brockman Music and Performing Art Center, individuals may choose to support one of several important initiatives to meet their philanthropic goals and advance the mission of The Shepherd School of Music.
Endowed Scholarships and Stipends
Our highest funding priority, competitive scholarship packages for prospective students enable us to successfully recruit and support the most talented young artists/scholars in the world. These named merit scholarships provide partial tuition support and can either be designated for a particular instrument or used for general music scholarship support.
Instrument Acquisitions
The Shepherd School is building its collection of fine instruments, thanks to the generosity of individuals who have donated or loaned their pianos, violins, and other instruments, or provided funds for their purchase. These gifts ensure students have top-quality instruments on which to perform and use for competitions and professional auditions.
Guest Artists
This initiative allows the Shepherd School to invite many of the greatest instrumentalists, singers, pedagogues, language coaches, stage directors and set designers to engage with students and faculty and the broader Rice University and Houston community.
Touring
In the interest of increased visibility, educational enrichment, and recruitment, the Shepherd School aspires to establish an annual touring component to our curriculum involving both large and small ensembles. Mounting tours will provide vital exposure and experience for students who perform in the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra as well as in our chamber music ensembles.
